Who are the Ibo?

The Ibo (or Igbo) are a people situated in southern Nigeria, run on a democratic system of government and existing over thousands of years. They are the main focus in the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, a reclaimed Nigerian writer noted by Bruce King to be "the first Nigerian writer to successfully transmute the conventions of the novel, a European art form, into African literature" (Culross).
